Working meeting of the Members of the Project Consortium 1-3 June 2026, Warsaw, Poland
On 1–3 June 2026, a working visit in Poland was organised within the framework of the MOLCAR project. The visit was hosted by the Polish consortium partners: Warsaw University of Technology and Fuel Cell Poland. Andrea Bazzanella participated in the meeting on behalf of the Swiss partner, École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne.
The aim of the visit was to discuss the progress of research and development activities, exchange technical experience between the partners, and strengthen cooperation in the development of Molten Carbonate Electrolysis technology supported by solar energy. The programme included laboratory visits, hands-on technical activities, modelling workshops, a project seminar and a joint progress meeting.
The first part of the visit took place at Warsaw University of Technology, where the laboratory infrastructure used for MCE-related research was presented. The participants took part in a demonstration of the assembly of a single MCE cell, including the key stages of component preparation and cell construction for experimental testing. An important part of the programme was also dedicated to workshops on the numerical modelling of an MCE system supported by concentrated solar power. During the workshops, the partners discussed modelling assumptions, the representation of physical and electrochemical processes occurring in the cell, and the use of simulation results for further system optimisation.
The next part of the visit was held at Fuel Cell Poland. The participants visited the company’s laboratories and became acquainted with the ongoing work related to molten carbonate fuel cell and electrolyser technologies. A particularly important element of the programme was the observation of an operating MCE stack consisting of 10 cells. This demonstration provided a practical insight into the current state of the developed technology and served as a basis for discussion on further scale-up and system integration.
The visit also included a project seminar and a joint progress meeting. The partners presented the current status of their tasks, discussed the results achieved so far, and identified the key directions for further work. The meeting made it possible to refine the plan for the next experimental and modelling activities and further strengthened the collaboration between Warsaw University of Technology, Fuel Cell Poland and EPFL.
